Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Chad Ruenger, 33, Waterloo, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb to 84 months in prison for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and possession of firearms during and in connection with a drug trafficking crime. Ruenger pleaded guilty to these charges on October 1, 2012.

Ruenger was arrested on May 7, 2012, in possession of 35 pounds of marijuana, three pounds of hashish, and three loaded handguns.

There are two other criminal cases related to Ruenger's prosecution. Josh Campbell, 27, Madison, Wis., pleaded guilty on November 26, 2012 to conspiring to distribute marijuana. Campbell will be sentenced before Judge Crabb on January 11, 2013.

Didrick Petersen, 48, Daniel Frazier, 49, and Timothy Frazier, 50, all of Fairfax, Calif., are charged with conspiring to distribute marijuana. Daniel Frazier was also charged with possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute. Petersen and the Fraziers are scheduled to go to trial on March 25, 2013. Daniel Frazier and Timothy Frazier are brothers.

The charges against Ruenger were the result of an investigation conducted by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy M. O'Shea.
